tattoo

Today was a good day. I went to see about my tattoo. She was very helpful and my appointment will be on May 13 at 6 pm.
Kung fu was fun tonight. I learned the first moves to the fan form. I have lots to practice. I was able to do 3 sets of Mu lon koon. Tonight helped me see the importance of stances. I find them vital to forms and I was able to pass that on tonight. We also made a great observation in the blue/brown class tonight. We were discussing how our forms all connect together. Each one teach us something unique and useful tho adapt to Kempo. Lung teaches flow with breath. 18 temple motions is about relaxing the body to make our forms circular. Hung helps with finding our dot and keeping our force vectors linear. We can draw from all our forms to help us with Kempo.
For my cleaning I did the laundry. Changed the bed. Did dishes. Put the laundry away. Took out the garbage.
For breakfast I had a piece of chicken then I had Taco bell for supper. 2 soft tacos fries supreme and an iced tea. for lunch I had carrots celery and broccoli with dip. then for supper I had fruit from the fruit tray. 2 cups worth. My mornings start at 5 pm and I go to bed at 9 am. So my time lines are quite different than most people.

Morning Class

I got up and attended the morning class today and I am very glad that I did. I had a lot of fun and I forgot how nice it is to get everything done in the morning. I must confess that I have not attended that class for several months, finding many excuses not to get up, and it felt good to be back. Who knows maybe I'll make an really early morning class soon!

Monday Morning Thoughts

My first Chinese New Year banquet was a great experience. It was really impressive to see the way that everyone came together to help set up for the banquet and then again to tear down and clean up at the end of the night. The demonstrations were amazing and I had never seen a lion/dragon dance in person before. When I was sitting at the table playing the music for the demos, I found myself repeatedly looking over at the two black belts on the table beside me. There was something about seeing them sitting there waiting to be awarded that stuck with me. It made me think about all the time and energy that must go into earning one. I found it exciting and intimidating at the same time. When Sifu Csillag and Sifu Langner spoke about their Kung Fu experiences it tied the whole night together for me. Hearing about how far they’ve come and what Kung Fu means to them really inspired me.

I had a bit of a rough start to my I Ho Chuan year in that I didn’t complete any daily requirements on Saturday so I put myself in a hole right off the bat, although it was only one day. Yesterday was a lot better though. I completed all my requirements except for my situps and I was able to spend some quality time with friends and family for the Super Bowl too.
Speaking of the Super Bowl, I came to the realization last night that I need to start distancing myself from professional sports. I feel like I waste a lot of energy following and cheering for my teams and they never win anything. After Denver got crushed yesterday I felt like someone ran over my dog. I had invested some much emotionally over the course of the season and the playoffs that the let down for me was awful. I’m still kind of feeling sad about it and I shouldn’t be. It’s a game. Why should I even care? There is literally no benefit to following sports the way I do, other than entertainment value. But I seem to take it far beyond mere entertainment value. So, in the interest of balance, I’m going to try to take a time out from sports for a while and maybe try to gain some perspective about the whole thing.

Commitment

This past Saturday I went to Silent River Kung Fu's annual Chinese New Years Banquet.  I brought my wife to give her a sense of what I am  doing in my Kung Fu classes.  I found the night to be a very intense experience as I watched the demonstrations and seeing the promotions that were given out that night.  I thought of the amount of work and dedication it took for these levels to be reached by people that I see and train with daily in the kwoon.  After the event I talked with my wife more about the commitment I made to be part of the I Ho Chuan year of the Horse team and let her know about each of the goals I committed too.  She gave me her commitment to do what she can to help me along this path.

Watching the events of the night it confirmed my decision to be a part of the I Ho Chuan year of the Horse team.  I am a believer in disciple and what it can do to help a person reach their potential.  As a coach I talk about this all the time to my athletes.  Now it is my turn to have the same discipline to make me reach goals that I have agreed to work towards.  I know that it will be a lot of work, but hard work has never worried me.  I am looking forward to the process that I will be going through in the upcoming year.

Welcoming the Year of the Horse

What a great wrap up to the year of the Snake! Enjoyed the banquet very much and there was indeed quite a feeling of accomplishment. My final numbers from last year are tallied and I am moving on to focus on my requirements for the year of the Horse.
I didn't join the 1000 push ups for the first day of the new year... I was just too nervous about the banquet. I will make up for that though!
Wishing us all a great year!

number one

What a great New Year. I was blown away by the night. Best night ever. I loved the outpouring of support everyone had. I'm looking forward to the new year with everyone. I'm so proud of Randy's accomplishments, he really did great. I want to say thank you to all the volunteers  who made this a great day.
My goals for the year of the horse is as follows. I will be posting regularly updates on my diet and house cleaning. These are two aspects I would like to make a part of my everyday life and not be a chore. By sharing with you I can be accountable for my actions or lack thereof to instill a new way of living. I see this as a great opportunity to change things for the better.I know how tho lose weight and I know how to clean. I need to do both these thing more effectively so it complements my lifestyle and not hinder it. I want to have at least 5 chores listed as well as my food intake.
I have taken on some religious studies with my sister in law's help. I have 3 books I've been wanting to learn and I believe this is a good opportunity to undertake the course. We will  be meeting every Sunday night to go over exercises and readings for the week. It will be a lot of hard work but I feel up to the challenge.
I also have a phobia of needles I need to deal with. My doctor needs check ups with blood work and I need to get these done right away. Not in 6 to 7 months. I am going to promise to do these tests asap so I can get the help I need right away. To further this endeavor I've wanted a tattoo for years and I'm good with waiting for it. This year I will schedule an appointment for a tattoo and keep it.
Thanks

New Year

I can't believe what have happened yesterday. It all went so fast. The Dragon/Lion dance was awesome. Then came the kids demo and I was so happy to see my kids doing so well and also my class, the Advanced BD, performing (great job everyone!). I was also exited to present the awards for the Advanced BD - way to go Miss Deluca and Mr. MacKay!

After the awards presentations, we did the I Ho Chuan demo. I think it went pretty well. I think I finally got comfortable with my Twin Hooks. Then we had the candidates demo. What a rush of adrenaline. I was nervous about the Twin Hooks fight choreography but it was done without a glitch. Finishing with the multiple opponents applications was the peak for me. I don't think I would be able to do another demo after that.

I got my black belt. What an excitement. And I will never forget what Sifu Brinker told me. Because of what he said, this is one of the best moments I ever had.

So after taking today for resting (yeah right resting with 4 kids...), I had to put some thoughts into my schedule for the coming year.

I'm going to switch my blogging day from Wednesday to Sunday. I'm also going to include a snapshot of where I am with my I Ho Chuan requirements and my personal goals. This is to keep me accountable.

I'm happy to continue with the team and also seeing some new faces in the team. It will be great to meet everyone next Saturday for out first meeting (Feb 8 at 2pm if you did not know).
