Motivation, Commitment, Discipline and all that is in between
We all struggle with motivation from time to time. How can we keep our commitments? How can we do what we signed up for? How can we be disciplined and practice every day?
It is not easy and I find it harder now that it is so dark early in the morning. Who wants to get out of bed at 5:30 am? When it is so cold and dark outside? Not me!
When you have a goal in mind, it keeps you motivated. Your commitment is greater. This is where a tournament like the Tiger Challenge comes into play. We need to realize the value of this event and set a goal of competing at the event. We have less than a month to practice and prepare for it. Commitment. Discipline. Motivation. That all it takes.
When Sifu Brinker asks us in class - where are you/ and what are you doing? I also ask my-self: "why am I doing it?". We all have our reasons for being in Kung Fu. When you are feeling down and unmotivated, think about the WHY. It helps me to re-engage in my training.
I hope to see lots of students at the Tiger Challenge this year. I hope to see YOU there too!

Wrapping up
I'm into the final couple of days of my training and I couldn't be happier! It was world class training and I am so fortunate to work for such a great company with such an amazing training program. I'm so excited to be coming home and back to the kwoon.
Can't wait to see everyone again!!!
Mr. Repay

Mr. Repay
Mr. Leung?
Mr. Leung? Where are you? Did you find an island like the one I talked about in a previous blog? If so, I'm kind of mad at you for not telling me about it.

So Excited
I am beyond excited to run in the IronHorse Ultra 100 mile relay this weekend. I am runner #6 so I will be running in the dark (no moon too). And it is going to be really cold and maybe even rainy ( or snow????). I am not sure why this is exciting for me but it sure is. It will be great to watch our team’s progress throughout the day and cheer on all our members as they achieve their goals. Bit sad that my personal cheering squad won’t be there…next time.
I am also really excited about the Tiger Challenge. It is my favorite event of the Kung Fu year even beating out New Years with all that great Chinese food. I love seeing everyone showcase their stuff. Everyone looks so cool and I the best part, I get to be part of it!
man.....maybe I should practice what I preach!
Wrote a nice blog last night about motivation and then today totally didn't follow it. Nice eh?
Worked 12 hours....but there were times I could have snuck in some pushups. I just hate doing them where people can see. Missed opportunities for sure.
Gotta try harder tomorrow.
Basic numbers: 51 pushups, 52 kicks
Acts of kindness: held the door for someone twice, read Julia an extra bedtime story, helped someone at work
Today I consumed: breakfast sandwich from starbucks, a piece of spanokopita with greek salad, 2 oranges, half a granola bar and some steak with mashed potatoes and gravy. I drank 3 coffees and 6 glasses of water.

A Little Grappling
In last Wednesday’s morning class we did a little grappling.
It was fantastic! My partner happened to weigh a little more and
be a whole lot stronger than me. It was a great reality check. If I was ever to be attacked, it probably
wouldn’t be by some little runt but rather by someone who was bigger and felt
they could easily have control over me. There
would also be a good chance that it would end with me on the ground being
pinned under someone with my breath being squished out of me and the feeling of
being helpless. Seems like a reasonable
time to panic. Fortunately, practicing
in class with trusted fellow students is the perfect and safe opportunity to
learn. For those who have their
reservations, or just a fear, what better place to first feel what being in the
situation might feel like and then learn some tricks that could possibly get
you out?
Thanks Sihing for the dead weight reality check!
