I love Kung Fu.
Heck, I love all martial arts. I love the beauty and the grace
that is present within all martial arts (from Kung Fu to Muay Thai and
beyond). I love the science that is inherent and present within all
martial arts, and the biomechanical and physiological understanding that
is inherent behind all the techniques. To see a skilled practitioner
passionately training and practicing, is to see a love and grace and
beauty presented in a subtle and potentially inherently deadly
methodology. Martial arts is a paradox in itself; a killing blow, a
lock, a throw that is a beautiful and typically graceful technique.
So, if I love all martial arts, why did I just say that "I Love Kung Fu?"
The atmosphere at Silent River Kung Fu. I've trained at a few
martial arts places, and one particular thing that I've noticed about
Silent River, is the atmosphere. It is a welcoming and open atmosphere,
where a sense of ego is lacking and replaced with an atmosphere of
passion: A passion for learning, for helping others learn, and for
developing as martial artists. In my humble and limited experience in
training in martial arts, I feel that Silent River Kung Fu has an
amazing atmosphere that is conductive to training and improving as a
martial artist. Not only are the combatives, forms, and technical
aspects taught and maintained effectively, but the spiritual and
community drive are also paramount. One may travel to an MMA school to
train to be skilled and amazing within the ring and within the ring
sports. However, to be a well rounded martial artist, Silent River Kung
Fu has one heck of an atmosphere to allow for one's development into a
martial artist.
Notwithstanding, other schools definitely have such an atmosphere
and are conductive to the development of a prime martial artist (in the
skill and spiritual sense). These schools (with Silent River Kung Fu
among their ranks), are integral in the development of one as a martial
artist, and the development of a strong and healthy community.
So,
the family atmosphere at Silent River Kung Fu is pretty awesome, to say
the least. I also have a funny feeling that my kung fu family is going
to whoop my buttocks for failing to blog in a long time as well....
Cheers,
Sifu Harrigan
