Last night my friend, who is a doctor, diagnosed me with lateral
epicondylitis, or commonly known as "tennis elbow", in my right elbow. I
think it is obvious that it's from extensive use of my rope dart. That
seemed to be the start of the tear, and then sparring in the black belt
class 2 Fridays ago, I threw a punch and felt severe pain in my elbow.
I think it may have torn the tendon a bit more. Anyways, it's done,
and now I need to get it better. My friend says the best way to get
through the next couple weeks is to take Ibuprofen with every meal to
help with pain and swelling. I will need to take some just before the
performance too. There isn't much pain when I do the fight
choreography, but it is brutal when I do the other demo; doing part of
the rope dart form. After the banquet, it's important to let my elbow
rest and give it time to heal. I am hoping it won't take long.
I
am determined to go forward with my dart and try new things and get
faster, and improve my aim. Hopefully this injury is only temporary
because I have been practicing a lot. There is a good chance that after
the banquet, and letting my elbow rest, I will be able to keep up with
regular practicing, and my elbow will be able to handle it. I don't want
to have to give up the rope dart, and I feel pretty confident, I won't
have to.
Get better elbow!
