Dragon demo

I get to be the first one to blog about the Dragon dance demo today. Whoo hoo! It was awesome! We've been practicing in a VERY tight space for this, and it turned out we had more space than we thought, so we spread out and I think(from the pics anyway) that it looked good! Its neat to see it from the pictures perspective--seeing the interaction between the lion and the dragon. Never get to see that part! But kudos to all the team--we rock! And to our drummer, cymbals, and coaches getting us ready and helping us look good. And to Sifu Playter and Sihing Tymchuk in the lion--wow! Did he ever come alive! To me, the dragon is exactly what UBBT is--a bunch of us working together--hard work sometimes!--but having a laugh, and enjoying the ride. There has been alot of ups and downs this year with the new format of UBBT/I Ho Chaun; lots of times I was very tempted to throw in the towel. What keeps me is this IS an awesome group--the chance to get to know other students and Sifus in this way is awesome, and like Sifu Stoddert has posted, its nice to walk in to the kwoon and see people you know and WANT to hang with. I think in our daily lives, alot of us are missing connection--perhaps thats why so many settle for mediocrity, if thats the only connection you have. I like being surrounded by people with higher aspirations, seeking mastery, although I admit I dont like being browbeat to do it. In fact, the more I'm pressured usually, the more I'll dig in my heels (just ask my mother....) But like the donkey and the carrot, if its fun, well hey, sure:) Enter the dragon here. Teamwork and fun, all rolled into one. I really hope he's not retired this year. Surely we can make him look like a snake....
