On a forum I belong to I was reading a thread dedicated to ringing out 2012 and phrases such as "good riddance 2012", "so looking forward to 2013", and so on were prominent. Come on people, is it really the date on the calendar that makes the difference? Some seem to think so. Luckily (for me), I don't share that train of thought.
One thing that I like to do on New Year's Day is to reflect back and tally up what the Earth-moving events were for the year. Since I have a few on the list, I'm inking them so here goes:
- Got over myself with making pipes, now I enjoy making them. Do I make a lot? No, but the openness allowed me to see the birthing of plant watering bulbs and hummingbird feeders.
- Gluten-free since April. Even though this came with a pain-staking detox x 2, it has been worth it's weight in gold. Since then my health has improved (migraines and headaches be gone!! or at least on sparse occasion vs. being on the "calendar") and my culinary skills have soared to a whole new level beyond what I thought possible.
- Admitting to myself that I LOVE being in the kitchen and trying new recipes. For so long I had thought of the kitchen as some sort of domestic chore that had to be done. No more!!
- My brown belt in Kung Fu and am now 2 stripes from Sihing. Aaacckk!! I think that about captures that point.
- Being the tail on the Dragon Dance team. Last year I was quite happy not to have anything to do with that position then whatever happened, and now I'm here and I love it!!
- Designed my own fan form complete with numerous do-overs, love-hate spans, and triumphs. My fan form isn't pristine as of yet, but what I learned from building my own form was incredible. Highly recommend designing one's own form.
- The growth of a community of like-minded friends, all of which are from Kung Fu. This isn't something I planned on, more-so evolved, and it's something that's golden.
- Helping my team-mate and friend with her healing process with ulcerative colitis. Also helping Dennis with his healing of COPD.
- Realizing the role that Kung Fu actually plays in my life. Because of this, I can map this onto the other areas of my life thanks to I Ho Chuan.
- Joined Tai Chi and can say that I am actually enjoying it despite it drawing out tension, tight muscles and what not. When I first saw Tai Chi, I though of it as too "floo-floo" for me. Yeah, insert attitude adjustment.
- Really connecting into and with my Spirituality, finally letting go of past religious "ties".
- Going to my home town and doing a craft show with Mom. It was truly amazing how much fun we had and that she didn't want to miss a minute despite being 90. She's wanting me to come back for the trade show in April.
- How could I forget?? Made glass dragons and had an ear-ringing night of "what do you mean you weren't going to put those on the auction table??!!" I have made dragons since then and there will be more coming.
This is no means a complete list, but a primer to get the reminder juices flowing. For 2013 and Snake team goals, I have some that continue from here and some where I have to get out of my own way to not only accomplish, but to get going on. So here's to the "old" laying down the path to continue onto the "new". Happy New Year!
