The Village Raising the Child

I had quite a neat experience the other day.  Every Sunday night, my friend and I go work out at the Tri and then finish with a soak in the hot tub.  Quite often I run into people I know while I am there.  This past Sunday I ran into a father of one of my kung fu students.  He approached me and introduced himself and told me who his son was.  Then he went into thanking me over and over again for everything that I have done to help his son.  He told me that I have done a lot for his son by teaching him kung fu, and how grateful he was for it.  He told me that kung fu is making a big difference in his son's life.  Once again, he then thanked me for teaching his son.  This particular student has some challenges in life, and kung fu is very good for him.  I am glad it is helping, and I am happy to be a part of it.

Teaching kung fu is very rewarding, but it is times like this that help me to see the difference I can make in kids lives.  I know that I am not the only one to teach this parent's child, it is all of us together that make a difference.  Still, I am pleased to be a part of it, and make any difference in the life of a child that I can.  In turn, doing at least a small miniscule of good in the world.
