Trusting that they will do the right thing!

During the advanced Black Dragons class last week, the instructors were asking the students if they were going to attend the tournament and also asked what events they planned on entering. As an assistant instructor I stood back listening to the youngsters step up to the plate and commit themselves to the challenge. I noticed that my son hadn't put his hand up when the group was asked who'd be entering the tournament. For a full ten minutes I could not meet his eyes with mine... I'm sure he knew what was going to take place after we bowed out...the father to son conversation!

At he age of four, my son has been in the tournament since its first year in the community center and has not missed a tournament since. Even though, he has always been a confident little man, I know that in so many ways, these events can only better a person, so it bothered me that he was not considering entering the tiger Challenge this year.

At the end of the class, I approached my son as a instructor but spoke as a father. My first question was....Why not? The answer was really without reason. So I proceeded to explain what this challenge does for the competitors and the opportunity that this event offers. We departed with a bow and proceeded home shortly thereafter. I left my words with him to absorb, with hopes that they would bring him to doing the right thing.

Well, just a couple evenings ago, during a long distance conversation with my wife, she mentioned that our son had decided to enter the tournament and was very excited about his decision. Another proud father moment!

There is nothing like witnessing my children take the correct roads in life. I'm cheering for you buddy!

Love Dad
