Politics frustrates me

It's time for another election and I find myself even more disallusioned by politicians of all parties then ever. I believe that the saying power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely apllies to well the politics nowadays. It seems all the different parties are just offering all kinds of trinkets to buy your vote, without truly explaining how they are going to pay for everything they promise. I have supported the PC party all my life since helping out with Joe Clarks campaign way back in the 70's and 80's. But even they are losing my loyalty and making me seriously question who to vote for. I like the idea I read of in a fantasy novel once. But the person who least wants the job in charge for a year at a time. The catch is they have to do a good, fair and honest job to the best of their ability or suffer a dire fate. That way the person does the best job they can without looking out only for themselves. I know this wouldn't work, but it sure makes you wish for simpler times. I would love to see politicians who actually voted as their constituents asked them to, instead of party lines. I would love to see politicians not be able to give themselves outrageous raises or golden handshakes or pensions. I would wholeheartly support someone who was honest, could admit their mistakes and learn from them, and most of all not point a finger at others for something that was messed up all along and never fixed properly.

As you can see there is alot going on in my mind as this election approaches. Fortunately I am trying to look at everything more objectively and without anger or extreme frustration as I used to do in the past. Some things are outside my ability to change. But I do believe everyone should exercise their right to vote. Otherwise I think you forfit the right to complain about the way things are. If enough people vote a certain way, then I believe change can at least be initiated.
