An exercise in smiling

In my 20s, living in Taiwan, I was constantly told: “Don’t smile so much; you will get wrinkles.” I laughed and continued to smile. Now in my 40s, when looking in the mirror, it is not the smile lines that bother me but the anger lines. Seems like I have spent much of the last decade with an angry look on my face.
A smile is supposed to be the natural face position. Yet, most of us consistently walk around with either a serious or grumpy face.
My smile exercise is simple: break this bad face habit and smile ALL the time.
At first, it really hurt. And it was really forced. But by day two it was much more natural. And the results:
  1. I feel more patient and capable of handling life.
  2. I infected others! Family, friends AND strangers couldn’t help but smile back.
Nice.
From now on, I will say: “Smile more, it will give you wrinkles – and happiness”
