Tai Chi Inspired Training Day 9 June 28

Today I did my training at the Kwoon and received some great insights during Sihing class. I was informed that during my board breaking sequence I lifted my heel during my front thrust kick thereby dissipating my power and that to make my elbow technique two handed. Putting my hands together makes the technique one handed. Very valuable information.

Kicks: I practiced my kicks being conscious of returning to center. From what I saw in the mirror, my knee didn't roll in. Must check tomorrow before Tai Chi class. I also practiced holding my crane stance  at various times throughout the evening. The stability is better and improving.

Core: So here I am in my "high chair" doing my crunches and Sihing Lowery asked what I was doing. My response was "crunches". Her reply was "looks like kegels" (bladder exercises for women). Gee thanks, what a pal!! Because I didn't want the whole class to think I was kegelling it, I held off on my core until I got the brilliant idea to make the movements very small, but still intense. Hah!! That worked. I was still practicing my crunches without obvious movement under my shirt. Yes, my abdominal muscles feel worked.

Forms: Getting into the kneeling position for Awakening The Dragon was a trying effort because my left foot kept cramping. How people can sit in that position for a long time is beyond me. However, I managed to get into position and held it there for the entire length of the demo without feeling the discomfort I have felt in previous days. Yay for me!! I also worked with my fan (left hand) and have the first few moves that I like. Now to build on it.

I am finding that I look forward to my daily training and I think it's because I get very present and in tune with what I am doing. There are a few exercises that I do during the day to bring my mind out of the stratosphere and into the here and now. I believe that right now my Kung Fu training is adding to those such exercises.
