So what I have learned this year is that like the legend of the phoenix, all ends with beginnings. What keeps the planet spinning? The force of love beginning. We’ve come too far to give up who we are; so let’s raise the bar and our cups to the stars. We’re up all night ’til the sun. We’re up all night to get some. We’re up all night for good fun. We’re up all night to do… pushups… oh wait… that’s a song.
So.
Yeah.
What I have learned from I-Ho-Chuan is the value of my family. How to do a pushup. How to fail. How to succeed. The power of not giving up even when you really, really want to. Lots about egos. My first weapon! My breaking point. And the depths of love. Still awed that my family could still love me even when I was at my worst. THIS is what makes me want to be a better person. THIS is why I do Kung Fu.
I-Ho-Chuan has changed my life by enabling me to introduce new life habits – things that I won’t stop once I stop I-Ho-Chuan, journaling in some form, pushups and situps (100/day for life), running (I will never stop), always working to improve myself.
What I found worked: Not taking things personally. Not comparing to others. Not playing mind games with self. Staying focused on goals and commitments. Not giving up. Support from loved ones. Having the right attitude. Making the changes part of your life routine. Not taking a day off ever. Just do it.
Still working on these. It is, I imagine, a life-long journey.
