Tai Chi Inspired Training Day 17, July 6
Tai Chi class was today and also today was the start of section 4 of the form. Section 4 was where I started with Tai Chi so today marked a complete circle, well, kinda sorta. When we were going over the moves it was like de ja vu, been here before I think? The moves did come easier as I wasn't trying to learn left from right and how to stand properly this time. My shoulder did rat me out as to improper technique from lifting my shoulder.
Speaking of shoulder injury and rest, it's very easy to rest when the shoulder hurts, but hard as hell when it doesn't and guess which is the most important? Actually both, but it takes more determination (and patience) to rest when the shoulder feels good. There's a fine line between enough and over doing it. I'm blessed with having team support to rest and heal this right the first time. And now I have an incentive to heal my shoulder properly and that is to be teamed up with Sifu Robinson again in the dragon. Sifu Robinson and I make a great team and nothing makes my day more than to get into a squabble with him over something he did, didn't do, or forget that the tail is like "cracking the whip."
I practiced my fan tosses and fancy moves (injured shoulder slung up) and noticed that the move that I had the most trying time to get with my right hand (fan rolling around my hand) came like a breeze with my left. My catching is off right now and I do believe that it's a balance issue with my injured shoulder immobilized. However my thought is that if I can catch my fan compromised, I should be able to do better once my shoulder is up to snuff again.
Tai Chi Inspired Training Day 18, July 7
Since it is Sunday, I am training lower key. I have decided to do the arm exercises from Tai Chi warmup. "Picking fruit" is very good for shoulder mobility and I am quite mindful to keep the shoulder blades down. The arm swings, both side to side and front to back are also very good. Now to keep in the "enough" region.
I did some more blocking with my left fan form. I like the first set, now it's on to the second. I think I know what I want, just to put it together.
Hey, there are belt loops on my jeans! I bet if I hook my thumb through the loop, it can serve as a support for my shoulder, take some weight off. Brilliant idea, but will I look cool or like a throwback from the 70's? I'll go with cool.
