Tai Chi Inspired Training Day 19, July 8

I read a very good quote yesterday, " the road to hell is paved with indecision." Makes me think about how I make a decision. Is it quick and decisive or wishy-washy with the hopes that someone else will decide for me? A thought to ponder.

Kicks: the theme of today's class was timed kicks. For starters, I hooked my hand in my belt so that my shoulder would be relaxed and not lift during the kicks. Smart move as I could focus on technique and pay close attention as to how my kicks were being done. As a result clued in to a couple of important things for me to work on. I noticed that I need to heighten (and strengthen) my crane stances. I have been working on that, and I need to continue. I also caught myself swinging my leg and doing more of a dragon's whip instead of a roundhouse. Again, crane stance so that I can pivot instead of swing. The good news is that I did notice the improvement with my kicks since I have been working on my crane stance and solving the issue with my left knee rotating in.

Core: pelvic tilts on the Swiss ball. I noticed how much my shoulder was "adjusting" during the pelvic tilts. Must pay attention so as not to overwork the shoulder.

Forms: the big one for me here was working on my left fan form. I solved the issue as to why my fan was being obnoxious about being caught the way I wanted it (always the fan's fault, not mine) and it was how I was positioning my right shoulder. A-ha!! Fix that, the fan plays nicer. Also I made progress in the blocking of my form. When I get back from holidays, I should have a version 0.5 for input and further development. Yay!! What I like about the left fan form is that it's actually a continuation of my form from last year. Yay again!

Horse stances have always plagued me as to getting them correct. However today I watched closely as to how Sifu Gamble gets into his horse stance. Eureka moment! I saw that it's an opening (and subsequent rolling out) of both the pelvis and the knees instead of straight pushing out. Hard to explain here, but at least I know the idea. Now to practice.

We took our Shepherd to the vet and in her x-rays found that she has a BB (as in air gun pellet) above her right hip. When that got there, we don't know, but I'm suspecting as a puppy because it does explain a few behaviours that she has displayed (she is an SPCA adoption) . Luckily the BB is in a dormant place. Showed up nicely on the x-ray. It was a surprise.
